Approach to Therapy
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, with just over 20 years of experience, Mrs. Johnson has worked with adults and children across the lifespan. Her experience includes working with children in schools and in-patient settings, with children and adults in crisis, with boys (12 to 21) in residential treatment and their parents, through integrated care with doctors and nurses, and in-home services. In Mrs. Johnson’s private practice, she has worked with children as young as 4 to adults as vibrant as 90 years old. In her practice she continues to work with individuals, couples, and families, addressing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns and conflict, substance abuse, self-esteem, suicidal ideation, trauma, and women and men’s issues related to pregnancy and loss.
In Mrs. Johnson’s current position, she will be working with clients mostly online. This offers a unique opportunity to receive therapy within specialized areas, to work together in locations of your choosing, within your comfort level and often at times that are more convenient for a busy schedule. Although online therapy is still a relatively new approach, research has found that whether online or in-person, both can be equally beneficial.
When she is able, Mrs. Johnson plans to return home for brief periods and is open to seeing her clients in person. Should a group (Teams, Churches, Families, Couples, Corporate or Executives) desire to look into an experiential Retreat/Intensives, please reach out to Mrs. Johnson directly to discuss what you hope to gain from such an experience and how together, we can coordinate your needs.
Additional Information
Mrs. Johnson left Bermuda to further her education in the States, where she eventually received her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2003 from Harding University. She is now a Clinical Fellow and a Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists. In 2019, she was honored to be elected to be on the Board of the Tennessee Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as their Middle Tennessee Director. She is also a member of the Nashville Area Association of Christian Counselors and has advanced training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR I and II) and so much more.
In her personal life, Mrs. Johnson married in 2006 and is now blessed with a full household. Outside of her being led by God and life experiences, Mrs. Johnson credits the motivation in her career to her family. In both blissful and stressful times, they continue to challenge her every day to be better, which in turn she believes, helps to make her a better clinician to all that she serves.
One of her most prevalent mottos continues to be, “at the end of the day, if it matters to you, it matters (period). There is no reason to feel guilty for wanting to feel stronger and happier with yourself and in your relationships.” She carries this motto with her because she never wanted someone to have to question, 'Could there be help for someone like, “Even me?”’. A phrase which aligns with her website: EvenMeCounseling.com.
